A free app to learn Japanese hiragana and katakana through quiz, review and tracing. No signup, no tracking, everything stays on your device.
The name
Darumoji blends daruma (達磨, the traditional doll embodying perseverance) and moji (文字, written character). A reference to the daruma motto: 七転び八起き — fall seven times, rise eight times.
Credits & licenses
KanjiVG
Kana animations and stroke paths are derived from the KanjiVG project by Ulrich Apel, distributed under the Creative Commons BY-SA 3.0 license. Vector paths have been extracted and re-integrated into an animated web format.
Typography
Bricolage Grotesque and Noto Serif JP, two free fonts loaded via Google Fonts.
Privacy
No personal data is collected. No account required. Your session history, best streak, and kana stats are stored in your browser's localStorage on your device. If you clear your site data, everything is deleted.
